Focusing on Myself and My Time
by JR Farr
It’s easy to forget sometimes how important these two things are in your everyday life. Over the past 2 or 3 weeks I have noticed something different about how I have been prioritizing my time and my goals. Not only that but focusing and surrounding myself on how I view things and most importantly the people around me. To be honest things have changed dramatically in the most positive way.
Some of the people that have been around me over the past few weeks have helped me see quite a few things differently. I have learned so much about myself and the way I view things in such a short period of time. If you’re reading this, thank you.
When you spend so much of your time making everything your first priority it’s very easy to loose sight of what is actually important. Which can cause you to have an unbalanced life. I realized I was making everything a priority and I ended up making things that mattered most not a priority at all. There have been quite a few things that have helped me re-evaluate my priorities and focus on the things that are the real priorities.
Creating and changing around my home and work office. Out with the old in with the new. I went to Office Max and bought the biggest white board I could find. In any giving day I have more ideas then anyone would know what to do with. This was one of the main purposes of this board. I hung it right next to a bulletin board in my home office. I now have a giant white board where I can layout all my ideas, goals and also prioritize my tasks. Next to that, my bulletin board allows me to see more of a visual layout. A constant reminder of the goals I want to reach for myself as an individual and also my family.
I realize that things needed to be done in the moment seem the most important but don’t forget about the bigger picture beyond that. I needed to just simply let go of certain things, but also simply focus more of myself on certain things that will make my family, career and my overall being more successful.
I know I’m not telling you something you already know but you might be surprised if you sit back and write down everything you’re doing right now. Re-evaluate how you focus on yourself and your time. Is focusing your time on a specific project or idea right now necessarily the best thing? You must get to the point, where the every minute you spend throughout the day is used at full capacity. That doesn’t necessarily mean you should be working all day long though. That full capacity of your time and energy could be an entire Saturday that you spend with your family. Giving them every last bit of your time and energy.
As I continue to grow, strengthen and practice this philosophy I know I will be focusing all of my time and energy to its full capacity. The only difference in this “full capacity” is that in the now and in the future I know it will benefit me as an individual and also my family.
