My Love, Hate Relationship with Twitter

Love, Hate Relationship with Twitter

It’s not me it’s you.

No but seriously, it’s you. It’s your fault. You’ve lost that lovin’ feelin’.

Since Twitter went mainstream, I can’t seem to figure out if I LOVE or HATE Twitter. The value for me is fading. I get so tired of going through the crap trying to be shoved down my throat, not to mention the always pleasant automated DM’s.

Don’t get me wrong, Twitter has it perks but it also has it’s downs.

If you’re reading this, how are you using Twitter currently?

Is it valuable?

Or becoming annoying?

Nick—Thanks for the comment and letting me know how you're utilizing it. Good points for sure and I agree with you. Twitter is all signal vs. noise. Funny thing is, since I've written this quick post, I've started to explore new ways to use Twitter and it's been helpful. Twitter is definitely valuable but like you said it's all about how you use it. I think the most important part is to not only take value but provide it as well. I've found that when I do that the value of Twitter comes back 10x's more.

Interesting. I can see how people begin to feel this way about Twitter, or any media for that matter. The problem really lies in how you use it. Each day, Twitter is more and more valuable to me. I am always discovering new and interesting people, getting valuable information, and finding new ways to connect. Considering the only cost to use Twitter is your time, it is still one of the best forms of word of mouth marketing. Just because there are hundreds of channels you never watch on television, doesn't mean you hate the television shows that entertain you. Sure, there are bad commercials on, but you ignore those and move on to the stuff that is important to you.

Nate — Good to hear from you man. It's funny, I tried calling you about a week ago but your old Seattle number was someones new number. That's crazy, we had the same post title. Good post by the way. Obviously yours was a bit more thought out though ;) Anyway, we should catch up soon if you're still around.
