New Project – Finishing the Basement

by JR Farr

I have quite a project in progress right now and I think it will be fun to share my experience along the way. Currently we are in the process of finishing our basement. This is something my wife and I have been wanting to do since we bought our home 2 years ago but this was put on our high priority list after we found out we’ll be having twin baby girls! It’s exciting and we have plenty to do to get ready.

In the process of finishing the basement, I know I am going to have a ton of help from my family and friends. Ashton & Tim have been awesome motivation and I know they’ll be there to help me throughout the project. I owe them big time ;)

The plan

When you first walk down we plan to frame out a new bedroom where the window is. The bedroom will be good size and we’ll also have to be sure to frame out a new closet for the room. The wall of bedroom will make for a hallway that will lead into what will be a family or entertainment room. On the left hand side behind where the stairs come down we will be moving the laundry room which will be framed for a 62 inch door frame. Next to that will be a good sized storage closet for all those baby toys ;) When the home was built in 2006 the builders decided to plumb a bathroom in the middle of this family room. We will be framing out a 45 degree angle door frame so it will look more like a corner bathroom. I think it will take up less space as well.

Overall, we’ll have a new bedroom, family room, bathroom, laundry room and storage room. We’re excited to get things going and I’ll be sure to be posting the progress of the project really soon. It will include plenty of pictures.

Here's as good as anywhere. Did you know the links in your recent comments box (the ones to your own posts) don't work. I think it's because you have / have had comment pagination on: http://www.malcolmcoles.co.uk/blog/wordpress-comment-pagination-and-duplicate-content/ The URLs work if you take the comment-page-1 bit out. Just so you know!
